ONYX is a New York architecture studio designing museums, cultural centers and residential towers — from the first concept sketch to the day the doors open.
Founded in 2009, ONYX pairs a small design core with a large network of engineers and craftsmen. We take on a handful of buildings a year so every project gets the same partners from concept to keys.
Our work has been recognized with 18 international awards, but the number we care about most is one: a single point of responsibility for the whole build.
A selection of work currently on site or recently delivered.
A daylight-driven gallery building organized around one continuous ramp, opening to the river on every level.
Three timber-lined halls under a single folded roof, built for concerts, exhibitions and a public reading room.
A slender 28-storey tower with a two-level public podium, winter gardens on every third floor and 123 apartments.
One studio, one contract, one team — across every stage of the building.
Concept design, feasibility studies and full permit documentation.
General contracting with our long-standing engineering partners.
Bespoke layouts, materials and joinery for every apartment or hall.
Working drawings down to 1:5 — junctions, fixings, finishes.
Photoreal stills, film and real-time walkthroughs for approvals.
Site supervision, snagging and handover — until the keys turn.
Most studios hand a building over three times — architect to engineer, engineer to contractor, contractor to client. We don’t. The same four disciplines sit in one room from the first sketch onwards.
Pick a discipline on the card to see what that team actually delivers.
From plot analysis to a bankable concept.
Documentation that builders can actually build from.
The building carried through to the last handle.
Our architects on site every week, not on call.
Six leads, one room. These are the people who will pick up when you call.
